Trend Alert: Why Elongated Ovals Are Dominating 2026

Scroll through Instagram or TikTok today, and you won't see many Round Brilliants. The engagement ring market has shifted decisively towards Fancy Shapes, with one clear winner: The Elongated Oval.

The Magic Ratio: 1.45 to 1.55

Why are designers obsessed with this shape? It creates a finger-lengthening effect that looks larger than its carat weight. But not all ovals are created equal.

At Kunlun Growth, we have adjusted our cutting instructions for 2026 production. We are focusing on ratios between 1.45 and 1.55. This is the "Goldilocks" zone—slender enough to be modern, but sturdy enough to avoid durability issues.

The Enemy: The Bow-Tie Effect

The biggest challenge with sourcing Ovals online is the "Bow-Tie"—a dark shadow across the center of the stone. It's caused by light leaking out the bottom.

You cannot see a bow-tie on a certificate.

This is where our value comes in. We visually inspect every Oval under various lighting conditions. If the bow-tie is prominent, we reject it. We only ship stones with "crushed ice" brilliance or crisp faceting that minimizes darkness.
