Why VS1/VS2 is the Sweet Spot
A VS (Very Slightly Included) diamond has inclusions, but they are usually so small that you need magnification to find them. If you can't see the inclusion without a loupe, why pay for it to be gone?
However, not all VS stones are created equal. You need to know what the inclusion is and where it is located.
The "Deal Breaker" Inclusions
- Black Carbon Spots: Avoid these if they are on the "Table" (the top flat face). They look like pepper flakes.
- Clouds: A cluster of tiny pinpoints. If too dense, they make the stone look hazy or milky (killing the sparkle).
The "Safe" Inclusions
- Feathers (White): Tiny internal cracks. If they are white and near the edge (girdle), they are usually invisible and can be hidden by a prong setting.
- Pinpoints: Tiny dots. Usually harmless in VS grades.
