Post-Growth Treatment

Also known as: HPHT Annealing, Color Enhancement

Key Takeaway: Post-Growth treatment is a standard industry practice used to improve the color grade of CVD diamonds (e.g., from G/H to D/E). It is permanent and stable.

What is Post-Growth Treatment?

When Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) diamonds are grown, they often exhibit a brownish tint due to crystal lattice distortion or silicon vacancies. To correct this, the rough diamond is subjected to High Pressure High Temperature (HPHT) treatment after growth.

This "annealing" process realigns the carbon atoms, removing the brown hue and resulting in a colorless (D-F) stone.

Is "As Grown" Better?

"As Grown" means the diamond was removed from the reactor with a D-F color and required no treatment. While purists prefer "As Grown" (and it commands a 5-10% price premium), treated diamonds are structurally identical and offer better value for high-volume jewelry setting.

IGI/GIA Disclosure

Grading reports will explicitly state: "This laboratory grown diamond may include post-growth treatment." This is a neutral disclosure, not a defect warning.
